Not just for a posting on this blog, but also for a game where the rockies looked like they were truly interested in what was taking place on the field. Even in the recent wins for the rox you never really felt like they were in control of the game at any given moment. Last night, however, you never felt like they weren’t in control. Cook had his A game and didn’t have to be perfect for a change. The offense took what was given to them early on and added to that with power later. The best part about the offensive performance was that it came from nearly every spot in the lineup. Aside from a momentary lapse of concentration from Tavarez, the defense was equally impressive as the pitching and offense, with Atkins being the primary star defensively for the night (that’s not a misprint). It was certainly nice to see Holliday back in the lineup, being activated from the DL earlier in the day.
The win last night was the 600th for the rockies at Coors Field versus 475 losses, a winning percentage of .558. When the rockies have had truly successful seasons they’ve dominated at CF. Last year they seemed to have really recaptured the home field advantage that the franchise enjoyed the first few years after CF opened. This season, however, we are merely 15-15 at home. Our performance at home must improve if we are to regain any level of respectability the rest of the way.
Some good news for the club: Tulowitski left the team last night to begin his rehab assignment with Modesto and is targeted to rejoin the active roster June 20. It will be good to get everyone from the bullpen and lineup healthy, regroup and see what we can accomplish the second half of the season.
The draft file has been updated with the rockies’ selections from the draft last week. DITR congratulations go to Kyle Stroup, a left-handed pitcher from Grant High School in Fox Lake, Illinois, the 1,504th and final pick in the 2008 draft, selected by Boston.
Until next time, go rockies!

If you happened to tune in late to the game last night, you probably thought that Clint Hurdle had finally lost his mind.
